Hello, I am Nathanial Downey. I grew up my entire life in the middle of nowhere
eastern Washington. I'm severely odd and a blooming artist- i have won several Okanogan County Fair Awards for Art, honorable mention from the art magazine Scholastic Arts, Washington's Superintendent's Choice Award of 2012, and a few more here and there. My art teacher is Dan Brown http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jGkspoULcKs in Okanogan High School, as well as a mentor. If you walk in the Superintendent's building in Olympia you'll see my art work as well as a few others of my fellow students. I absorb from several different inspirations- artist to anything else. I enjoy the work of H. R. Giger, Skinner, Ralph Bakshi, Shel Silverstein, and many many more!
Story time! Around later Fall of 2011, being a sophomore, had a pathetic accident during my Advanced Conditioning class- I tripped over myself in warm ups. By trying to catch the fall with my hands I ended up fracturing my left wrist. Which would have been fine except that I was left-handed. I thought my year in Mr. Brown's art class was over, as well as every other class involving using a pen/pencil. But after some effort and time I became a (poor) self taught ambidextrous teen. Though obviously not as good as my left I attempted to create, and did. After recovering Mr. Brown entered a few of my works into The 39th Annual Superintendent’s High School Art Show in Olympia, which had a surprising turn out. A hand sculpture with my original cast with inked designs on it won first place in sculpture. Another one of my artworks made with my lesser right hand was selected to be the winner of the Superintendent's Choice Award. And yes, I was huge for a sophomore.
